Is it possible that the Holy Spirit spoken of by Jesus can be an actual human being?
Let’s look at some points below, which might bring us to this conclusion.
In John 15:26, The Holy Spirit or the Spirit of Truth will testify of Jesus, but how and in what way? If He is just a Spirit, how will He testify to Jesus? He would have to be a man with the spirit inside or with the Spirit of God upon Him like the prophets of old. But it is not stated in the Bible.
In John 16:8-11, The Holy Spirit is said to convict the world of sin because it doesn’t believe in Jesus, of righteousness because Jesus goes back to the Father where we will no longer see Him and judgement because the ruler of this world stands condemned. How will He convict the world of unbelief? Will it be an action He does or something He says; or both?
Well, part of the answer could lie in Luke 11:31, where it is stated that the Queen of the South will rise at the judgment with the men of this generation and condemn them because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon and something greater than Solomon is here.
At the time of judgment, the Queen of the South will come heralding in the one greater than Solomon.
Solomon had asked the Lord for Wisdom and understanding to rule over the people of Israel. The one greater than Solomon would have spiritual wisdom and understanding to rule over the spiritual realm.
Jesus had spoken of His generation receiving a sign, the sign of the prophet Jonah. Likewise, this one greater than Solomon would give a sign as well. What sign could he give? How would it be? I say that it will be like the sign of Jesus. Just as Jesus was crucified on a cross, so would the one greater than Solomon give the sign of the Cross. This in turn would be one way that the Holy Spirit/Holy Man testifies to Jesus and convicts the world of unbelief.
The Holy Spirit in John 14:26, Jesus says: ” The Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you…”
So, this Helper will come in the name of Jesus and be like Jesus. He would be the last, as Jesus was the first. Isaiah 41:4b says, “I, the Lord, am the first and with the last I am He.” He is saying He is the first and that He (I AM) with the last. The last will be in Christ and Christ in Him.
In Isaiah 40:13-14 it says: ” Who has directed the Spirit of the Lord, or as His counselor taught Him? With whom did He take counsel, and who instructed Him and taught Him in the path of justice? Who taught Him knowledge and showed Him the way of understanding?”
This Holy Spirit/Holy Man will do this as well, so the Lord might better understand His creation from one who is part of His creation and a child of God. Along with the sign given would be a message, it would be so the evil spirits would know that Christ, the Lord, is still in control and in power. Before this message is given, being a sinful man, he would have to be forgiven to not have sins before the Lord. Isaiah 6:6-7, ” A Seraphim flew to me with a coal from the altar and touched my mouth with it and said, ‘This has touched your lips; your iniquity is taken away, and your sin purged.’”
John 16:13b says; “He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak.” Since He will be speaking what He hears how will this be? What or who is He hearing? And under whose authority if not His own? We see whose authority was given Him in John 16:15b; ” He will take of Mine and declare it to you.” Now we see that Jesus gives to the Holy Person the things of Himself. But what could this mean? It would be Jesus ‘ life, name and title, even power.
In John 7:18 it says; “He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but he who seeks the glory of the one who sent him is true and no unrighteousness is in him.” So the Holy Person would seek the glory of the one who sent Him. Jesus said the Father will send Him, so He would be seeking to glorify the Father and the Son.
This Holy Person would know when it is the Word of Jesus as John 10:27 says: “My sheep hear My voice and I know them and they follow Me.” He would be able to discern good from evil.
The Holy Person will do what Peter said he would do for Jesus, which was to lay down his life for Him.
1 Corinthians 2:14-15 it says, “But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one.” 1 Corinthians 2:10-11 it says: ” But God has revealed them to us through His spirit. For the spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.”
In Matthew 11:27 Jesus says: “No one knows the Son except the Father, nor does anyone know the Father except the Son.” Matthew 10:25 says: “It is enough for a disciple that he be like his teacher, and a servant like his master.”
Revelation 21:7 states: “He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he will be My Son.” Which in turn will bring about this verse: Revelation 21:3, ” The tabernacle of God is with men and He will dwell with them and they will be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. “
So, in short we can see that the Holy Spirit could very well be a man. He would come at the judgment along with the Queen of the South, because He is the One greater than Solomon.
Just as Jesus had fulfilled what was written about Him, so, too, will this Holy Spirit/Holy Man fulfill what was written about Him.
